Sevillian Romantic painters began to paint landscapes, like the painters of the European schools.

Landscape painting is characteristic of Sevillian Romantic painting. Manuel Barrón y Carrillo was one of the most important painters of Sevillian Romanticism. In his works he painted Sevillian customs, portraits and landscapes. In his painting, Shepherds’ rest, he emphasises the importance of nature.

José Chaves Ortiz was another important painter of this period. He began by copying paintings by Murillo. He later excelled in painting works of the bullfighting world. He also painted casacones, religious scenes, Costumbrista paintings and portraits.
